Earlier today the internet came alive when the first trailer for John Hillcoat’s dirty-cop thriller Triple 9 found its way online. The clip showcases the film’s enormous cast, as well as its gritty look at crime in the modern day, and I will warn you now, it’s sufficiently NSFW.
The plot of Triple 9 seems relatively simple. According to every synopsis online, the film follows as ‘crooks and corrupt cops plot to kill a police officer who stands in the way of a big heist.’ Just the kind of thing you need in the middle of a (likely brutal) February winter, right?
Triple 9 is most notable because of its cast. The film stars Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Norman Reedus, Aaron Paul, Gal Gadot, Teresa Palmer and Clifton Collins Jr. That is the kind of cast you would expect to see on a fall Oscar contender, and truth be told the film was initially scheduled for release this fall, but again – we will have to wait for the depth of winter.
